Your Facebook username.
Facebook usernames were launched in July 2009 and whilst you are likely aware of your Facebook enabled email address you may not be aware of your Facebook username. Whilst everyone that uses Facebook has a Facebook enabled email address, not everyone has a Facebook username.
If your Facebook profile is accessible via a short URL that you've selected after it then you already have a Facebook username for example, mine is: http://www.facebook.com/danoffer. My Facebook username is therefore: danoffer
If your Facebook profile page URL looks more like this: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=544370308 then you don't yet have a Facebook username and you'll need one in order to use Chit Chat for Facebook. You therefore need to read "How Do I Obtain A Facebook Username?"
Chit Chat for Facebook (Blackberry) connects directly to the Facebook chat servers, these require you to have a Facebook username.
You'll need access to a computer to choose a Facebook username.
1 - Load your browser (i.e. Firefox/Internet Explorer/Chrome) and then visit Facebook.com
2 - Login to Facebook using your email and password
3 - Click on "Account" and then select "Account Settings"

4 - Identify the setting "Username" - this should be the second one down and select "Change" - you'll then be able to choose a unique username.

Once you have created a username you'll be able to login to Chit Chat for Facebook (Blackberry) using your Facebook username (note - usernamel!) and password.
In order to access Facebook chat using Chit Chat for Facebook you need to use your Facebook password. In short, you use the same password for Chit Chat as you would Facebook.com. Chit Chat connects directly to the Facebook chat servers.
Once you've successfully created a Facebook username, it takes about 10 minutes for it to be transferred to all Facebook servers such that it works. Grab yourself a cup of tea, then try again. If issues persist, ensure that your Facebook username and password is correct.
UPDATE 29th March 2012: Please NOTE - Chit Chat will not allow usernames with capital letters in to login. The solution is to change your Facebook username to be in lowercase. The password field is unaffected by this known issue.
Please read the section on "What connection settings are the best?"
We've designed Chit Chat for Facebook (Blackberry) to use three tabs to make instant messaging easier. The first tab shows your Facebook friends, the second - conversations that you are engaged in and the third, unread messages.
We strongly recommended that you use WIFI or TCP/IP where possible with Chit Chat for Facebook. Using these settings you'll obtain the very best experience of Facebook Chat on your Blackberry.
Using BIS, a connection mode Blackberry encourages you to use by default, results in connection difficulties - and as a result Facebook messages not being sent or received , we therefore do not recommend using this connection setting. Avoid using BIS like the plague if possible.
